Duct Tape Drifter

Description

This was another photography assignment I've done, involving lighting. If you have seen my last photo upload of this car, this is the exact same car.

This assignment was lighting, where we had to take photos of front lighting (shown), back lighting, and side lighting . This front lighting photo was easy, since my only problem was trying to keep my camera's shadow from appearing in the photo. The side lighting and back lighting had me getting creative with a couple automotive lights and a cassette case.

My only complaint about this photo was that the camera I used likes to focus on objects that are no farther than six inches away. Everything else farther than that (like the rear wheel) gets out of focus. Makes me wish I had a camera with manual focus. . .

When I took a look at this photo again, I noticed that this photo brought out details of the car I've never taken notice of before, such as the way the car sits on level ground, or the damage it's taken while I've been drifting it around my living room floor. Linoleum is hard to drift on. . .

Time to bring out the yellow Sharpie again.

The title of this photo comes from the amateur drifting world, where most drivers come in contact with the track barriers and other cars to the point where the cars are held together using duct tape and zip ties, giving these cars the nickname "duct tape drifters." In amateur drifting, car body panels are often held on using zip ties and duct tape because instead of the body panel breaking, the zip ties will usually snap, letting the panel fall off instead of taking damage.

Body is a 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R BNR34 V.Spec body on an original 1/28 scale Xmods Generation One chassis. This car is smaller than your shoes.
